Spokane Mayor David Condon ordered flags at City facilities to be lowered to honor former Spokane Mayor David Rodgers. They will remain at half-staff throughout the weekend.

Services for Rodgers will be held Saturday. Rodgers passed away on April 18 at the age of 93.

“Mayor Rodgers chased his dreams with great passion and, perhaps even more impressive, was the way he encouraged others to do the same,” Condon said. “His legacy will be forever etched in what became Riverfront Park following the World’s Fair and what we now lovingly think of as Spokane’s living room. The impact of that investment transformed a city.”

Rodgers was elected in 1967 and served until 1978. He was mayor when Spokane hosted Expo ’74, which ultimately led to the creation of Riverfront Park. Rodgers also served one year on the Spokane City Council.
