Neighborhood and Business Services division Director Jonathan Mallahan, a member of Mayor David Condon’s cabinet the past six years, will leave the city to follow his passion for working with the most vulnerable populations.
Mallahan’s last day at City Hall will be Jan. 12. Dawn Kinder, director of the Community, Housing and Human Services department, will become interim division director effective Jan. 1 and Kelly Keenan will become interim CHHS director. Mallahan will help Kinder transition into that role.
“Jonathan has directed important work that has reduced homelessness, greatly improved customer service through 311, ensured our neighborhoods are engaged, and made it easier to invest in our city,” Condon said. “We are excited for Jonathan as he pursues this new opportunity and will miss his leadership, wisdom, and problem-solving ability.”
Mallahan joined the Mayor’s cabinet in 2012 as the Community and Neighborhood Services Director. He took over as Neighborhood and Business Services director in 2016 after the city’s divisions were realigned to the City Council structure. He joined the city in 2006 as an intern in the Office of Neighborhood Services and was appointed director of the department by then-Mayor Mary Verner in 2008.
Mallahan will become vice president of housing at Catholic Charities of Spokane.
