City building, plumbing, and electrical inspectors will receive continuing educational training Thursday, March 15. This training will be done by the Structural Engineers Association of Washington (SEAW) and will include Post-Disaster Building Safety Evaluation Procedures to help participants develop the skills to properly assess buildings for occupancy following a major earthquake, flood, or wind event.

As a result, building, plumbing, and electrical inspectors will not be available on that day.

Information from the course will help City inspectors properly enforce codes and work effectively with contractors, tradesmen, homeowners, and design professionals.

This training will enable us to respond in cases of disasters such as earthquake, fires and floods” said City Inspector Ernie Crocker. “Proper training for the ATC 20 and ATC 45 is essential for disaster preparedness.”

All Labor and Industry Inspectors will earn credits toward state continuing education requirements from this training. The State of Washington Department of Labor and Industries requires 24 hours of continuing education every three years for license renewal, including 16 hours of code update training.
