Spokane Historic Landmarks Commission to Receive NAPC’s Commission Excellence Award

Spokane Historic Landmarks Commission has been selected to receive a Commission Excellence Award from the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC). These awards recognize and honor outstanding efforts and achievements by local preservation, historic district, and landmark commissions and boards of architectural review.

Spokane Historic Landmarks Commission particularly stood out for its social media outreach activities

undertaken in conjunction with its mid-20th century modern architectural survey. With a social

media strategy planned from the inception of the project, the Commission understood the

importance of engaging the public in this effort if it was to build awareness of and support for protection of

these sometimes under-appreciated historic resources.

The Commission members will receive their award at NAPC’s FORUM in Des Moines, Iowa. FORUM 2018 will bring together over 600 preservation professionals and commission members from across the country for a week of training, education and networking. FORUM is held in different destination cities every two years and is the only national conference dedicated to the important work of volunteer commission members in locally-designated historic districts.

Founded in 1983, NAPC’s mission is to build strong local preservation programs through education, advocacy, and training. For more information, visit http://napcommissions.org/.
