The City received 23 Cultural Fund Grant applications with requests of over $150,000 from groups and organizations planning a wide range of wonderful events in the coming year. Applications received represented Cultural festivals and celebrations, arts fairs, and programs for culturally underrepresented populations, lecture-demonstrations and workshops with a cultural focus.

“We were intentional that events selected provided an opportunity for the sharing, learning and engaging of culture, heritage and traditions of the diverse communities in the City of Spokane that were open and accessible and completely free of cost,” Mayor David Condon said.

The Review and Selection Committee for the Cultural Fund Grant met to review and determine which of all applicants would receive funding. The Committee was comprised of the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Multi-Cultural Affairs (MACMA) and representatives of the City’s elected officials.

“The Review and Selection Committee was very inspired by the number and diversity of applications received and sought to equitably allocate the $50,000 of available funds to provide financial support to events that met the criteria of being cultural events,” Council President Ben Stuckart said.

The City’s application considered proposals in every cultural discipline. Twelve recipients will receive a portion of the $50,000 of available funds.

“These are wonderful events that our community will enjoy being able to participate in. These proposals represented a cultural activity of recognized quality that is free and accessible to the general public.” Multi-Cultural Affairs Director, Gloria Ochoa-Bruck said. “The twelve events selected looked very different from one another but shared a common commitment to public service and participation.”

The following twelve events granted funding were Panza Monologues, Winterfest Holiday Tradition, Filipino American Cultural Festival, Celebration of the Season of Light, Fiesta Spokane, Gathering at the Falls Pow Wow, World Refugee Day, Vaisakhi in the Park, Raga Tharanga, Chinese New Year Celebration, Spokane Fall Folk Festival and Vietnamese Heritage Day.
