Spokane Mayor David Condon, following a declaration by President Donald Trump, directed that United States and Washington State flags at all City facilities be lowered to half-staff to honor Retired Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, John Paul Stevens.

“Justice Stevens proudly served his country in the Navy, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court,” Mayor Condon said. “We encourage anyone with a flag outside their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor his memory.”

Justice Stevens passed away on Tuesday, July 16, from complications of a stroke at the age of 99. A private funeral service and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 23.
