The City of Spokane will host a community meeting to discuss a potential new targeted-capacity shelter planned at 4210 E. Sprague Ave. to serve people experiencing homelessness.

Here are the community meeting details:

  • Date: Tuesday, July 30
  • Time: 6 p.m.
  • Location: Project ID, 4209 E. Pacific Ave.

The City is working with providers and other stakeholders to advance the community service system with sustainable, strategic investments region-wide that will provide consistent levels of service. Ultimately, the goal is to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.

As part of that system, the City has been working to add targeted-capacity shelter resources that are designed as platforms to help people move to permanent housing and to mitigate community challenges related to homelessness.

The City is reviewing proposals from potential operators of the shelter. The new shelter is expected to open this fall with capacity for up to 120 people. The City has been actively working to develop additional shelter resources located outside of the immediate downtown core.
