Mom’s Demand Action and Spokane City Council Member Kate Burke are hosting a Vigil for Gun Violence on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Spokane Tribal Gathering Place next to City Hall.

Also sponsoring the event are Students Demand Action, Spokane NOW, Raiz of Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho, Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane, and Spokane NAACP. Everyone is welcome at the event.

“Holding this vigil is the first step in remembering the lives that were taken. But it is not the final step. We must honor those lost by immediately and actively working to prevent future acts of violence using proven solutions – anything less would be disrespectful,” said Council Member Burke

Organizers say the event is a time to grieve the loss of innocent lives, the government’s failure to take action towards future safety, and the rising white supremacy that is contributing to these senseless acts. The group will gather to reflect on the impact these deaths have had on our community and discuss the responsibility to put an end to these needless acts of violence. People are encouraged to bring pictures, signs, and memorabilia to support this intent.

DATE & TIME: Sunday, August 11, 2 p.m.

LOCATION: Spokane Tribal Gathering Place, 347 N. Post St.
