Spokane Mayor David Condon has ordered flags at all city facilities to remain lowered at half-staff to coincide with Gov. Jay Inslee’s directive that state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities remain lowered on Thursday, Oct. 24, in remembrance of Okanogan Assistant Fire Chief Christian Johnson.

In early September, Johnson suffered severe burns while battling the Spring Coulee Fire. He succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 2, 2019. We encourage anyone with a flag outside their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor his memory.

There will be a celebration for life service on Thursday, Oct. 24, 1 p.m. at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds Agriplex. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters Burn Foundation, Washington Wildland Fire Foundation or the Red Cross.
