This month, the Spokane City Council will likely appoint community members to pro and con committees for two ballot measures.

The first measure is an ordinance, sponsored by Council Members Cathcart and Bingle, submitting a ballot proposition to the voters of the City of Spokane to amend the City Charter regarding the City Council’s decennial redistricting process.

The second measure is adopting a citizen’s ballot initiative that relates to prohibiting encampments near schools, parks, playgrounds, and childcare facilities.

Any community member interested in serving on pro or con committees for either ballot measure may reach out to Council Office Director Giacobbe Byrd (gbyrd@spokanecity.org) by 5:00 p.m. on July 18, 2023.

Pro and con committees will prepare arguments in favor of, and in opposition to, the ballot measures as well as rebuttal statements, consistent with SMC 01.07.010 and the Spokane County’s Administrative Rules, with both ballot measures anticipated to be voted on at the November 7, 2023, general election.
