This month, the Spokane City Council will likely appoint members of the community to pro and con committees for a community safety ballot measure.

The measure would submit to the voters an increase in the sales and use tax rate by one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) for funding enhanced community safety operations.

Pro and con committees are required by state law whenever the city places a tax measure on the ballot. For this measure, the pro and con committees will prepare arguments in favor of, and in opposition to, the ballot measure as well as rebuttal statements, consistent with SMC 01.07.010 and Spokane County’s Administrative Rules.

Any community member interested in serving on pro or con committees for the ballot measure should reach out to City Council Office Director Giacobbe Byrd (gbyrd@spokanecity.org) by 5:00 p.m. on July 17, 2024.
