The Spokane Regional Continuum of Care’s annual snapshot estimate of the local unhoused population begins Wednesday, January 22 and will continue through Wednesday, January 29.
The Point-In-Time (PIT) Count is a nationwide event that seeks to identify and better serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Information collected during the local PIT count is sent to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Washington State Department of Commerce, giving them a snapshot of people experiencing both sheltered and unsheltered homelessness across Spokane County. Data collected during the event helps secure millions of dollars in funding for vital resources, informs policy at every level, and guides how the local community allocates resources.
The PIT is conducted by volunteers who count and survey people experiencing homelessness in the City of Spokane, City of Spokane Valley, and throughout Spokane County.
