The City’s Tourism and Cultural Investment (TACI) Grant Applications are now open through April 4, 2025. Applicants can apply for funding of an upcoming event or be reimbursed for an event that occurred before the application opened but within the calendar year 2025. These grants are intended to supplement new events in the city that encourage tourism and enrich the cultural environment of Spokane.
“Cultural events bring our community to life – they bring people together, celebrate our unique culture, and boost our local economy,’ said Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown. “With these grants, the City of Spokane is investing in the creativity and spirit that make our city a vibrant destination for locals and visitors.”
Funding for these grants comes from the Lodging Tax, a tax applied to hotel and motel stays and placed in a dedicated fund. The Public Facilities District receives most of the lodging dollars, and with the remaining, the TACI Committee gets to score applications and recommend grant awards to the City Council for final approval.
“Our committee envisions these grants as ‘seed investments’ in fresh, new cultural events which we hope will become staples in Spokane for years to come,” said Committee Chair Council Member Zack Zappone. “The ones we’re known for today, like Bloomsday and Hoopfest, started small. That’s the type of energy we are really striving to recreate.”
Events of all sizes are encouraged to apply for these dollars, which are awarded in amount ranging from $5,000 to $10,000.
Prospective applicants can attend a pre-application workshop on March 7, 2025. They will receive an overview of the application and have the opportunity to ask questions, which will be posted on the City’s website along with other frequently asked questions. RSVPs to the workshop must be submitted to Jackson Deese (jdeese@spokanecity.org) by March 6 at 5 p.m. Details about the grant, including the application, scoring guide, budget template, and FAQ can be found on the Tourism and Cultural Investment Commitee page.
