The Spokane City Council and City of Spokane staff announce updates to 2026 plans for the “Safe Streets for All” initiative and the traffic calming process. As part of its ongoing commitment to creating safer streets for all residents, the City is streamlining public feedback to improve community engagement in the project selection process.

“Everyone deserves to have safer streets. I’m excited that this new portal helps residents identify street safety problems in real time, making it more accessible than ever for people to share their concerns,” said Council Member Zack Zappone. “This grassroots method helps us make more data-driven decisions and strategize our investments to prioritize safety, equity, and connecting people to places they want to go.”

Starting in February, the City’s 3-1-1 Customer Service team will actively collect feedback from residents and neighborhood councils regarding street projects and traffic-calming issues. Community members are encouraged to share their comments using the following methods:

  • Online Submissions: City’s Customer Service Request webpage at Spokane311.org. This method is recommended for uploading documents and photos related to traffic concerns.
  • Phone Submissions: Call 3-1-1 to share your feedback directly with a customer service representative.

All street and traffic-related concerns submitted via phone or online requests between February 2, 2026, and March 31, 2026, will be considered for inclusion in the upcoming funding cycle. Please note that while feedback will be reviewed, not all concerns may receive funding. Projects selected would likely be implemented as quick builds in 2026 or permanent projects in 2027 and beyond.

“Safe streets for all mean no communities or neighborhoods are more important than others,” said Council Member Sarah Dixit. “The new portal ensures an accessible and democratic process to make your traffic calming concerns heard. Making community members central to this process ensures that the concerns that most affect our neighbors receive the attention they deserve.”

In addition to submitting new comments on potential traffic calming projects, neighborhood councils and residents are invited to review the 2023 DOWL Traffic Calming Proposed Project List to advocate for projects that are still important to their neighborhoods. This project list was created after comprehensive traffic-calming workshops with neighborhood councils in 2023. Some projects from the list have already been completed, and you can view the completed list on our interactive map online.

“We’re taking this step to ensure we hear from as many neighbors and communities as possible,” said Council Member Kate Telis. “It’s important that every voice has the opportunity to weigh in, and that our current list of projects truly reflects the needs and priorities of our community today.”
