Bike to Work Week is NEXT WEEK! That means that the Commute of the Century is about to get real. Please bring your bike and helmet and join us for these "extended lunch hour" group rides.
We've tried to put together a great event during Bike to Work Week. Here are a few things we've been up to:
Monday evening I went out with a small group of riders to receive group leader training. We discussed such things as hand signals, where to ride in the street, and how to act at intersections. The riders in this training were fun to be around, but were serious in conducting themselves to prepare for the coming responsibilities. Each of the tour leaders have been studying their routes, and refreshing their techniques.
Last month the locker rooms in City Hall were shut down for remodeling. While this is long-overdue, I found myself without a shower to use after riding to work. It changed the way I do things. Then I realized that after the longer group rides next week, some of us will have to return to work for the afternoon. Fortunately the Downtown YMCA is on our side, and they have offered their facilities to any participant! Just tell them you are with Commute of the Century.
Everything in this list comes with a story. To keep it short, route arrows were suggested for the group ride, and emphatically supported by those who heard the idea. There will be route arrows on the pavement next week!
If you've been wondering about the street-by-street route descriptions we've got those too.
We are continuing to work on the surveys for each route. This part is coming together quite well, but is not quite ready yet. We'll have the surveys live by Monday, though. Please be sure that the email you provide in your registration is typed well so we can send you the survey link when we're ready!
Thanks to all those who are busily putting this together, and thanks to those who have pre-registered! We'll see you on Monday!
