The Hillyard neighborhood in northeast Spokane has a lot going on. It is working on a redevelopment plan to cultivate new economic opportunities. It is also adding workforce resources and inviting the community to a summer event series.
NewTech Skills Center in Hillyard offers tuition-free technical and professional training to public, private, and homeschooled students between the ages of 16 and 20 who are still pursuing a high school diploma. The teaching approach is similar to a trade school – job shadowing with college credit attached. NewTech offers many different programs from biomedical to cosmetology, culinary arts to welding, and so much more.
