The Spokane Firefighters Memorial Project (501c3) is a legacy project created and led by SFD Lt. Greg Borg to recognize the line of duty deaths our organization and community have suffered. The memorial project is performing dedication ceremonies to install permanent memorial plaques for all 17 of Spokane's fallen firefighters. Each dedication will be held on the anniversary of the firefighter's death and the plaque will be installed at the location they lost their lives. The first dedication was for Captain Doyle at Post and Riverside on June 2.
The second dedication honored FEO John Knighten. John lost his three-year battle with multiple myeloma, a presumptive cancer recognized as job-related, on June 30, 2013. He was 45 years old and a 19-year veteran of the Spokane Fire Department. Please join in honoring John and his sacrifice by visiting his memorial plaque outside of Station 4 at 1515 W. 1st Ave.
The Spokane Fire Department encourages the community to learn more about our city's fallen heroes and to join the Spokane Firefighters Memorial Project in honoring and remembering each sacrifice that has been made to keep our city safe.
