A look at Spokane Police Department’s Community Outreach Strategy

Spokane Police Department's Community Outreach Strategy is now online for citizens to review.

The outreach strategy document discusses SPD's goals to work collaboratively with citizens and increase trust in the police.  Community outreach creates opportunities for open communication and dialogue, and helps citizens get involved in building a safer Spokane.

The strategy details the various ways that SPD can interface with community members, from officers attending neighborhood council meetings to youth outreach programs such as Police Activities League and the Youth & Police Initiative.

“Building relationships with our community members is critical,” says Lieutenant Tracie Meidl, who oversees SPD's community outreach efforts. “Engaging in dialogue with community members helps us address issues and solve problems together. Outreach events and programs give us a chance to educate people about what we do, break down barriers, and build trust.”
