A little more than halfway through the construction season new pavement will be laid in the Lincoln/Monroe corridor this week as part of a project that is improving the health of the Spokane River.
In preparation for the street work, crews are finishing storm drain pipe installation, catch basins, and sewer along the east side of Monroe between First and Sprague avenues. The intersection of Lincoln and Sprague will close for three days from Wednesday through Friday. Curbs are going in on the east side of Monroe from Sprague to Riverside avenues and on Lincoln from Second to Riverside.
The project is part of the integrated utility and street improvements that are getting us to a cleaner river faster. Lincoln/Monroe work is estimated to take 120 days and crews are approximately 70 days into the project. Project updates are posted weekly at spokanecity.org and have the most current information.
Paving is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Sept. 17 and continue on Sept. 28. Important new components to the city’s stormwater management system have been built underneath. Updates and improvements to the utility infrastructure that snakes its way under city roads have also been completed.
Work on the Lincoln/Monroe corridor is happening on Monroe and Lincoln between Second and Main, on Main from Monroe to Lincoln and Monroe from Spokane Falls to Main. Crews will work late into November – weather permitting – to complete the improvements.
City crews have worked about 1,000 hours of overtime on the project to date and crews from Avista, which has utility lines under the street, has registered about 800 hours of overtime.
