Pay-by-phone System for Utility Bills Improved

The City of Spokane offers several ways to pay for City utility bills for water, sewer, and garbage services, including a pay-by-phone option that many customers find fast and convenient.

This summer, the City is updating that pay-by-phone system to allow for easier processing of payments and other operational efficiencies. The updated system also will allow customers to use a greater variety of credit cards to make payments, adding Discover and American Express cards along with the already accepted Visa and MasterCard.

The updated pay-by-phone system will be available starting July 15.

To access the updated system, customers will use a new phone number: (888) 821-2101.  And here’s what you’ll need to have handy:

  • Your most recent City of Spokane utility bill.
  • Your new 6-digit City utility account number. (The City’s billing system will create 6-digit account numbers for those who currently don’t have an account number that is that long by adding zeros in front of the number.)
  • The PIN number that’s printed on your bill.
  • Your credit card number and expiration date (if paying by credit card).
  • Your checking/savings account number and transit routing number (if paying from your checking or savings account).

Please remember that before July 15, customers need to use the current pay-by-phone number and use the account number without the additional zeros.

The City’s utility bills include charges for water, wastewater, stormwater, and curbside garbage collection.  In addition to the pay-by-phone service, the City offers an online ebill service at www.spokanecity.org and accepts mail payments and in-person payments at City Hall and other locations.

The City also offers paperless billing and budget billing that spreads billing amounts evenly across all months of the year. Get more information on these options.
