Is there an abandoned vehicle in your neighborhood?

Reporting an abandoned vehicle is easy! A vehicle is considered abandoned after being left unattended for more than 24 hours. To report an abandoned vehicle call 311 or a fill out a Complaint Form online.

After the initial report a Code Enforcement Officer will review the vehicle within 48 hours or two working days. The review of the vehicle may prove that there is an elderly resident, a person who is sick, or some other reason the car was left abandoned. An opportunity is provided for the owner to move their vehicle before any kind of penalty is applied.

If the vehicle is determined to be abandoned according the definition provided under SMC Section 16A.61.561, the Code Enforcement Officer will provide a warning notice to move the vehicle. The warning notice gives a specified time frame for the owner to move their vehicle. If the vehicle is still in the right of way after this time frame it will be referred to the Spokane Police Department for impoundment.

The timeframe for impoundment varies. SPD balances impoundment needs with other calls for service. If an abandoned vehicle has not been removed seven business days after the initial report, please call 311 for an update.
