Celebrate Black History Month

Monday, Mayor David Condon signed a proclamation stating, “on behalf of the citizens of Spokane, do hereby proclaim the month of February, 2018 as Black History Month and declare a city-wide celebration of Black History Month, and more importantly, the study of Black history, and the continued work we must all do to realize racial and social justice for African Americans.”

The Spokane Public Library is celebrating Black History Month with events throughout February. View the full list of Black History Month events!

All six Spokane Public Library locations will be hosting Black History Month events. These events are a great way to learn about the achievements and challenges African Americans faced in the past and face today. The library will be hosting a wide range of events from live music performances, poetry, lectures, storytime for children, and much more.

We encourage the community to get involved throughout the month of February! Attend Spokane Public Library events or events at regional colleges and universities, churches, and community organizations.

Happy Black History Month!
