In early October, Spokane Mayor David Condon delivered the City Charter-required Statement of Conditions and Affairs. The Mayor reported, “The condition of the City is strong, and we remain optimistic about our future.”
The Mayor devoted much of his speech to plans for the 2019 budget. The Mayor said the 2019 budget will match both our long-term Comprehensive Plan and our Strategic Plan road map, and it will define our work plan for the coming year.
The Mayor’s proposed budget for 2019 will include investments in public safety, programs to help those experiencing homelessness, and infrastructure. The budget proposal will include the addition of 10 new police officers, which would bring the number of new officers since 2012 to 52. The proposal also includes about $47 million in new street investment.
Overall, with this budget, we will continue to make government more affordable for the people we serve, accountable to their expectations, and aligned to their priorities.
