Students Champion Recycling

“Think before you throw.” Local students remind us the importance of following the recycling rules.

More than 235 students from Spokane County in grades K-8 entered the recent Spokane Recycles Poster Contest sponsored by the Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System. Their work, created to help raise recycling awareness in our community, was based on the theme, “Let’s Recycle Right! Here’s how…” The annual competition is part of America Recycles Day activities that took place across the country through Nov. 15.

All 32 grade level finalists were recognized at the Tuesday, Nov. 12, meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. Of those, it was announced that the work by 17 of the students would appear in the 2020 “Spokane County Recycles” calendar.

A limited number of calendars will be available free of charge from the City of Spokane Solid Waste Disposal Department administration office by calling 509.625.6580. You can also email solidwaste@spokanecity.org to reserve your copy.
