The City of Spokane will begin demolition of the Under the Freeway (UTF) Skate Park on Monday, August 3rd, 2015. Those who use UTF are asked to visit the location before demo, take photos while skating at the location and post the photos on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #UTFTribute.

Extensive outreach has been conducted leading up to the demolition, including a meeting with individuals who use the skate park and surrounding businesses, to help identify potential locations and features for a new wheel park facility.

The City of Spokane Parks and Recreation Division partnered with Grindline Inc., a skate park design and construction company, to collect and analyze public feedback from the community and identify the best location for a new wheel park in Spokane. Their report, which evaluates several Spokane locations and their ability to house a wheel park, is complete and posted on the Parks and Recreation website.

The City of Spokane’s Parks and Recreation Division is committed to constructing a new wheel park and has allocated approximately $288,000 from a previous Park bond for the construction of a new park. The next step in the process of creating a new wheel park is to present the Grindline report to the Park Board. Members of the Park Board and Parks and Recreation staff will evaluate the report and make a decision as to the best location for a new wheel park.

Those who skate UTF are encouraged to visit the location again within the next two weeks, take photos while skating at the location and post the photos on the Parks and Recreation Facebook page and/or on Instagram with the hashtag #UTFTribute. Photos will be compiled and posted on the City of Spokane Parks and Recreation website.
