SPOKANE – The City of Spokane will temporarily close A Place of Truths plaza behind the Central Library on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 for a thorough cleaning and minor repairs. The work is anticipated to last about two weeks.
Work will include a deep cleaning of the plaza and the embankment below, including trash removal. The site will also receive amenity repairs (such as damaged electrical and irrigation elements), turf replacements, and graffiti clean-up. Graffiti-resistant coatings will be applied, and improved lighting and signage added.
“The plaza provides an amazing view of the Spokane River, like a picture window in the City’s living room,” says Public Works Director Marlene Feist. “As we enter event season and the 50th celebration of Expo ’74, we want to make sure our living room is tidy for guests.”
The project is a partnership between Public Works, who constructed the plaza on top of the Combined Sewer Overflow tank, Code Enforcement, and Parks & Recreation, who is now responsible for the site’s maintenance.
Spokane Riverkeeper volunteers have graciously offered to help with the trash clean-up along the river embankment.
The plaza will soon be home to a trailhead for the Spokane River Gorge Loop Trail, anticipated to open by the end of May for the Expo 50th anniversary celebration.
