Spokane, Wash. – Commemorate Arbor Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Finch Arboretum.

A brief ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. with Mayor Lisa Brown to celebrate the City’s 23rd year as a Tree City USA, and cut the ribbon on a revitalized Touch and See Nature Trail at the Arboretum, made possible through donations and community support.

The event features family activities, live music, tree care and environmental education, free seedlings, and more. This event is free and will operate rain or shine. Service animals only, please; pets are not allowed in the arboretum.

Highlights include:

  • A revitalized Touch and See Nature Trail to explore. Originally designed in the 1970’s, the trail renovation includes new braille signs, guide rope, and plants.
  • Spokane County Regional Waste Ambassadors will teach how to turn yard and food waste into "black gold" for your garden
  • Spokane County residents may take home a free compost bin or countertop food waste container. Limit one per household, supplies limited. Bins provided in part by the Washington State Department of Ecology. Please bring proof of residency and arrive no later than 1:30 p.m.
  • Free compost, courtesy of Barr-Tech Composting. BYOB (bring your own bucket).
  • Bartlett Tree Experts will give out tree seedlings and hold a tree climbing demonstration
  • Free small coffee or hot cocoa, and free small kettle corn to the first 150 people, thanks to Avista
  • Live music and raffle prizes
  • Arts and crafts project from the Corbin Art Center

Arbor Day at the Finch Arboretum is presented by City of Spokane Parks & Recreation and Spokane County Regional Waste Ambassadors. It is sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts, with additional support from Avista and Barr-Tech Compost. The renovated Touch and See Nature Trail was made possible through the generosity of The Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, Spokane Central Lions Club, Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane, Lilac Services for the Blind and Grid Mark Signs.

 

About the John A. Finch Arboretum

The Finch Arboretum is Spokane's outdoor classroom for naturalists, horticulturists, and students of all ages. Located just off the Sunset Highway, the Arboretum occupies 65 acres of park land along Garden Springs Creek, where thousands of trees and shrubs can be seen and studied.
