The SPD Property Crimes Unit investigates those crimes related to property, including burglary and theft of stolen property. In addition, Fraud detectives are also assigned to this unit, who conduct investigations regarding forgery, fraud, embezzlement, and identity theft. Fraud is closely related to Property Crimes, as many of the items used to commit fraud are obtained during the commission of a burglary or vehicle prowl. Detectives in this unit focus on the recovery of stolen property as well as crimes that relate to a crime series or the likelihood a repeat offender is responsible. The Property Crimes Unit often works closely with other units to focus on prolific offenders responsible for committing these and other crimes.
