Spokane Police Department assisted Airway Heights Police Department in the arrest of a Vehicle Theft and Eluding suspect. Spokane Police used spike strips to stop the fleeing vehicle and K-9 to quickly locate the suspect after he fled the scene. The suspect, 21 year old Jesse Woodward, was arrested by Airway Heights Police for Attempt to Elude, Possession of Stolen Vehicle, and an outstanding felony warrant for Reckless Endangerment.
On 10-3-13 around 4:00 am Spokane Police officers were advised that Airway Heights Police officers were engaged in a high speed pursuit with a stolen vehicle and the fleeing vehicle was headed towards Spokane. In order to protect public safety and to stop the pursuit, Spokane Police officers set up spike strips at 3rd and Monroe (where the vehicle was heading) to disable the fleeing vehicle. The suspect jumped out of the vehicle once it had been disabled by the spike strips near 5th and Washington and fled on foot. Spokane Police Department officers quickly set up a perimeter. A Spokane Police K-9 located Woodward hiding in a plastic barrel behind a nearby apartment complex. Woodward was arrested by Airway Heights Police for Attempt to Elude, Possession of Stolen Vehicle, and an outstanding Reckless Endangerment warrant.
Through interagency cooperation and quick police response, a dangerous high-speed pursuit was quickly ended and a suspect was taken into custody.
