Spokane Police Chief Straub signs statement supporting opportunities to hire current and former members of our military.

Today, 6/5/14, Spokane Police Chief Straub signed a formal Statement of Support for employment of current and former members of our military. The ceremony, held at the Spokane Police Academy this afternoon, included members of the Spokane Police Department leadership, members of the Washington Army Air National Guard and members of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). ESGR is an organization operated through the Department of Defense that provides education, mediation and recognizes supportive employers of Guard and Reserve employees. The Statement of Support pledges that:

  • The Spokane Police Department fully recognizes, honors and enforces the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA)
  • Spokane Police Department’s managers and supervisors will have the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  • The Spokane Police Department appreciates the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and veterans.
  • The Spokane Police Department will continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war.

The Spokane Police Department has and continues to employ veterans and current members of our military. Today's signing was the Department’s formal show of support for hiring current and former members of our military.
