Spokane Police Collision Investigators have determined the motorcyclist who died after a crash with a Spokane Transit Authority (STA) bus on 05/22/2015 failed to stop for the steady red signal at North Foothills/Crestline.
Spokane Police responded to the report of a crash between an STA bus and a motorcyclist on 05/22/2015 just after 1:30 p.m. The initial information indicated the STA bus was making a left turn from eastbound North Foothills to northbound Crestline and the motorcyclist was westbound on North Foothills. The motorcyclist died from his injuries at the scene. The intersection was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated.
SPD collision investigators were able to pull video footage from the STA bus. Based on the video footage, it appears the motorcyclist was still east of the intersection and stop line when the light turned red and entered the intersection after the light had clearly been red for westbound traffic. The footage also showed the STA bus entered the intersection while the light was still yellow. The investigation is ongoing, so at this time the footage will not be released. We would also ask anyone who witnessed the crash and has not spoken to police, please call Crime Check at 509.456.02233.
