Spokane Police patrol officers, following up on a stabbing that occurred early Friday morning, took convicted felon Michael L. Backemeyer (40) into custody for 1st Degree Assault without incident early this morning. The victim sustained several non-life threatening facial lacerations during the incident. He was treated and released from the hospital on Friday.
On , Dec. 16, 2016, just before 1:00am, Spokane Police responded to Peking North in the 4100 block of north Division on the report of a stabbing. Police located the male victim on the scene with several lacerations to the face that appeared to be cause by an edged weapon. Witnesses reported the suspect, later identified through patrol’s investigation as Backemeyer, had been asked to leave the bar when he attacked one of the employees. At the time officers attempted to locate Backemeyer, but were unable to.
Following up on investigative leads, officers responded to a home in the 2800 block of north Cincinnati early this morning, just before 3:00am, and found Backemeyer in a vacant residence. He was taken into custody without incident and was booked into Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Assault.
Backemeyer will appear in court tomorrow at 1:30pm.
