SWAT team and Special Victims Unit detectives take suspect into custody on N Division St.

On 05-25-17 at a little before 8:00PM, information was obtained by Spokane Police Special Victim Unit detectives that a subject wanted on multiple sex offense charges was located at the 6800 block of N Division St. Information obtained was that the subject was armed, had made suicidal statements, and possibly threatened other people. Due to the information the subject was armed, personnel from the SWAT team were utilized.

Officers observed the subject outside a camper trailer with a firearm in his hand, but the male quickly moved out of sight. Citizens near the incident were moved to a safer location. Communication with the subject was started, and about a half hour after the incident began the subject surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody. A firearm was retrieved from the scene.

Daniel Wells Jr, age 38, was booked into Spokane County Jail for rape of a child 2nd degree, rape of a child 3rd degree and Incest 1st Degree. There are potentially additional charges forthcoming.

Division St near Wedgewood Ave was briefly shut down, but is now re-opened.

SPD would like to thank the cooperation of citizens and businesses in the area during the incident.
