Three Arrested for Breaking in & Vandalizing Salk Middle School

After tracking with a K9 for 2 hours, three juvenile males were taken into custody on the roof of Salk Middle School early this morning. Spokane Public School Security Officers responding to an alarm at the school called and asked for assistance after receiving multiple alarm trips. Once inside, officers discovered damage had been done inside and continued to receive alarm trips in various parts of the school. The three males were booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for 2^nd Degree Burglary and 1^st Degree Malicious Mischief.

Yesterday evening, July 17, 2017, just before 11:00pm, Spokane Police Officers responded with a Spokane Public School Security Officer to Salk Middle School in the 6400 block of north Alberta on an alarm. There were multiple trips inside the school, so officers called for a K9 to assist in the search of large, and still under construction, facility. K9 handler Ofc. Todd Belitz and his partner K9 Zeus spent 2 hours searching the school with patrol officers while additional trips went off in areas not occupied by officers. While Ofc. Chris LeQuire tracked with K9 Ofc. Belitz, Ofc. Mike Huffman relayed the additional alarm trips to the team. A number of additional officers were on scene making sure the suspects didn't leave the area undetected.

They discovered suspects had been into the kitchen, opened containers of spices, oats, and other pantry items, and spread them all over the school, filling drinking fountains and hallways with them. A five gallon bucket of paint was also found overturned in the kitchen and a soap dispenser had been torn off the wall. Damage estimates were in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Just after 1:30am, officers spotted the three on the roof of the school and were able to take them into custody without incident. All three juvenile males were booked for 2^nd Degree Burglary and 1^st Degree Malicious Mischief.
