Today August 7, just after 10:00AM Spokane Police responded to the report of a vehicle vs pedestrian crash near S. Division St. / E. 3rd Ave. A van had crashed into two other vehicles and then struck a pedestrian when headed northbound on S. Division St., through E. 3rd Ave. The van exited Interstate 90 prior to the crash. Spokane Police and the Spokane Fire Department responded to the scene, however the pedestrian died as a result of their injuries from the crash. Spokane Police spoke with witnesses, and the driver of the van was cooperating with the investigation. The roads were closed for several hours while the Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and the Crash Investigators conducted their investigation. The driver of the van, 62 year old Michael J. Lucey, was arrested for Vehicular Homicide. Lucey was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
The two victim vehicles and the van were the only vehicles involved in the crash, and the drivers of both of the victim vehicles have been contacted. The roadway has been reopened to traffic.

The identity of the pedestrian and the cause of death will be released by the Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office.
