Spokane Police Detectives Arrest Subject for 2nd Degree Murder from Weekend Shooting Downtown.
A weekend shooting on a downtown sidewalk sent a male to the hospital for the gunshot injury. The male later died from the injury. Detectives developed probable cause for murder 2nd degree against the shooter.
On October 8th, 2017, just before 1:00 a.m., an argument developed outside businesses in the area of Sprague Avenue and Washington Street. During the confrontation one male subject displayed a knife. Another male subject accessed a handgun and fired a shot. A third male was struck by the gunshot.
Officers were on scene within two minutes of the call and immediately began first aid.
The victim was transported to the hospital for his injury. The male has since passed away.
Major Crimes detectives continued the investigation through today and developed probable cause to arrest Ricky L. Tanner (25). Tanner is the subject who fired the handgun.
The SPD Patrol Anti-Crime Team (PACT) with the assistance of Department of Corrections Officers took Tanner into custody tonight. Tanner was booked into Spokane County Jail for one count of Murder 2nd degree.
SPD is committed to solving violent crimes to keep the Spokane Community safe.
We thank all those who provided witness statements and assisted with the apprehension of Tanner who committed an act of violence in a popular area of downtown frequented by citizens.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will be the agency to release the victim’s name.
