Saturday, September 15 around 11:30 hours, Spokane Police arrested Charles A Guerin for Kidnapping 1st degree, Robbery 1st degree, Assault 1st degree, Possession of Legend Drug, and Driving Under the Influence (Drugs). This crime took place at the Safeway (Northwest Blvd. and Ash).

A female arrived at the Safeway and left her male passenger in the van while she went inside of the business. The suspect Guerin who was standing in the parking lot with no shoes or shirt on decided to steal the van. Guerin got into the driver’s seat and stole the van with the passenger still inside the van. While driving at high speeds Eastbound towards Division Guerin was making threats to the victim passenger and did not give him the opportunity to exit the van. While at Division and Jackson Guerin forced the victim passenger out of the van while at a high rate of speed.

At this point, alert citizens were in the area calling 911. Reports were coming in of a possible Carjacking. Guerin continued South on Division at a high rate of speed. Guerin then went Westbound on Spokane Falls Blvd. and crashed into another vehicle at Bernard. Guerin then fled on foot from the crashed stolen vehicle, Westbound. Guerin ran into a populated Riverfront Park near the Red Wagon. Officers arrived on scene shortly after and took Guerin into custody. In coordination with the Patrol criminal investigation the Traffic Unit Drug Recognition Expert was called out to assist.
