Spokane Police Officers took a male into custody after witnesses reported he was firing a gun off at a city park last night. Masijah M Daniels (18) was taken into custody without incident and booked for a number of charges. No one was injured during this incident.
Last night, just before 7:00pm, Spokane Police Patrol officers responded to the report of a male firing off a gun at Audubon Park in the 3400 block of N Milton. Witnesses reported the male, later identified as Daniels, had fired the gun off at least twice before reloading it. There were a number of people still in the park at that time, both juvenile and adult.
Responding officers saw Daniels, who fit the description of the shooter, and ordered him to stop. There was a brief foot chase, but then he was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered the firearm on a piece of playground equipment at the park. More ammunition and the empty magazine from Daniels reloading the firearm were found in a backpack he discarded while officers gave chase.
Daniels was booked for 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment, and Obstructing a Police Officer. He will be in court today at 1:30pm.
Safety at our city parks is a high priority for the Spokane Police Department. We want our community members to enjoy the many activities and attractions the parks have to offer. We appreciate the citizens who to continue to call in crimes and suspicious activity at our parks so they can be addressed.
