Spokane Police Officer and Major Crimes personnel are on the scene on a fatality just outside of the Downtown Library. We’re asking people to avoid the area for the next hour or so while we continue to investigate and gather evidence. Anyone who witness the incident and has not talked with police is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
This afternoon, just after 2:00pm, Spokane Police Officers and medical personnel were called to the Downtown Library on the report of an adult male who had fallen approximately five stories to the sidewalk below. Unfortunately, he was declared deceased at the scene. No one else was injured during this incident.
There is no evidence at this time of a crime, but due to the fact the death was unexpected and unattended, police process the scene to determine if there was any kind of criminal activity involved. So far, with the statements gathered from witnesses and evidence collected, investigators believe this is nothing more than a tragic accident.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s office will determine manner of death and release the identity of the individual once their next of kin have been notified.
