On January 9th at about 9:47 PM, an SPD Officer was in the area of 8th Avenue and Thor Street when he observed a maroon Dodge Stratus with no plates, roll through a stop sign.  The Officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle by activating his emergency lights. The vehicle initially stopped but then took off at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle was not located at that time.

At about 10:12 PM, an SPD Corporal was in the area of 8th and Pittsburg Street.  The Corporal observed the maroon Dodge Stratus driving and tried to catch up to it.  The Corporal thought the occupants were going to bail so he exited his patrol vehicle.  Instead of bailing from the vehicle, the driver of the Dodge Stratus went into reverse and drove at the Corporal causing him to jump back into his patrol vehicle, nearly hitting the Corporal. The Corporal then initiated a pursuit on the vehicle.

The pursuit went through the Perry District and finally came to an end at Perry Street and 20th Avenue.  The Corporal pinned his patrol vehicle against the Dodge Stratus so that it wouldn’t move anymore. There were three occupants in the vehicle. All three were detained without incident.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 19 year old Haylie M. Pariseau.  During a search incident to arrest, Officers located a good amount of a tar like substance and a good amount of a crystal like substance. From training and experience we know this substance is consistent with heroin and methamphetamine. A Drug Recognition Expert also arrived on-scene and evaluated her.  Haylie was showing several signs of impairment with being under the influence of drugs.

Haylie was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Attempt to Elude a Police Vehicle, 2nd Assault on an Officer, Possession of Controlled Substance Heroin, Possession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine and DUI. Hailey also has a warrant for an un-related DUI Case.  Haylie was also just released from the Spokane County Jail for Robbery 2nd charges.

The second occupant in the vehicle was identified as 19 year old Wyatt F. Comer.  During a search incident to arrest, there was ammunition found on Wyatt, which included some loaded .380 cartridges and a shot gun shell.

A criminal history was done on Wyatt and it showed that he was a convicted felon.  Wyatt’s conviction are possession of stolen property 2nd, Assault 3rd and theft of a motor vehicle.  Wyatt also has several misdemeanor convictions which include dangerous weapon violation, assault 4th, theft 3rd, criminal trespass and malicious mischief 3rd.During the investigation it came to the Officer’s attention that a gun was possibly thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit. Officers went back and checked the area for the gun and found it in the area of 11th Avenue and Pittsburg Street.  The gun found was a .380 semiauto Ruger.

Wyatt was booked into the Spokane County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm 1st degree.  Wyatt also had an un-related warrant for malicious mischief.

There was a third occupant inside the vehicle.  He was released at the scene.

The vehicle was seized at this time pending a search warrant.

These types of situation could evolve quickly and could be extremely dangerous. We are fortunate no Officers or any civilians were injured during this incident and the ones responsible are off the street.
