Corporal Maplethorpe

Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 9:13 p.m.

Today, February 13, 2020, at approximately 6:00 PM, Spokane Police were notified of a collision on N Nevada St at E Crown Ave.  There initially appeared to be seven vehicles involved.  Fortunately, several of these vehicles were witnesses who stayed on scene.  It was found that four vehicles were involved.  One driver was taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses told officers on scene the driver of a Mini Cooper was traveling at a high rate of speed Southbound on Nevada St.  The vehicle crossed the centerline and clipped one car, traveling Northbound.  This caused the Cooper to spin, sideswiping a second vehicle traveling Northbound and then struck a third vehicle head on, which was also traveling Northbound.

The driver of the Cooper was found to be under the influence of drugs.  Roman Segovia, 25, of California was taken into custody and booked into the Spokane County Regional Jail Facility for DUI, Possession of a Controlled Substance and driving on a suspended license.

Nevada St between Crown Ave and Queen Ave were closed for approximately two hours during the investigation and cleanup, but has since been reopened.

SPD thanks all of the witnesses who stayed on scene and helped with the investigation.

Drunk and drugged drivers are a serious safety concern the drivers of Spokane face every day.  If you drink alcohol or use drugs please call a taxi or sober friend to drive you home.  The life you save could be your own.  If you see a dangerous driver or situation, please call Crime Check (509-456-2233).
