On July 14, 2020 around 6:20 p.m., SPD Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the area of 3900 N. Stone Street. It was reported Nathan K. Brown (48) had shot himself in the leg. Officers located Brown sitting in a chair on the sidewalk and they provided first aid.

Witnesses were able to direct Officers to the apartment where Brown had been shot. A firearm was located and recovered from a kitchen counter inside the residence. Officers were not able to locate a spent cartridge.

Brown was transported to an area hospital for the non-life threatening gunshot injury.

Brown is a convicted felon and therefore cannot legally possess firearms.

An Officer went to the hospital and recovered Brown’s clothing and the bullet. When he was securing those items in the Property Evidence Facility, he located a spent cartridge in the pocket of Brown’s overalls. A spring loaded knife was also located in his clothing. Spring activated knives are illegal in Washington State.

After Brown was cleared by medical staff, he was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd degree, Possession of Dangerous Weapons and an outstanding DUI warrant.
