Update 10/2/2020:

Spokane Police Department investigators from the SPD Major Crimes Unit, the SPD Special Investigative Unit, the Safe Streets task force and the SPD SWAT team make a second arrest in the homicide that occurred as the result of the drive by shooting yesterday in the 3100 block of E. 5th. 

Investigators worked through the evening and by the early morning hours had developed leads on the location of the second suspect from the homicide that took place in the 3100 block of E. 5th.  (See original release below).  By this afternoon, investigators had located the suspect, who is not being named in this release, as he is a juvenile.  

The investigators then coordinated with the SPD SWAT team to take him into custody.  At around 4:00 PM, SPD SWAT and plain-clothes detectives made contact with the suspect, who complied with police and was taken into custody without incident. The apprehension took place at a hotel, located near Holland and Division.  

Four other males were with the suspect at the hotel, they were briefly detained as well. 

The suspect was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention facility for First-degree murder and drive by shooting. 

SPD Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives executed a search warrant at the hotel for evidence; during the search, they recovered a loaded Glock handgun with an extended 22 round magazine. 

The investigation is ongoing.

Update 10/2/2020:

Spokane Police make an arrest in the homicide that occurred as the result of a drive by shooting yesterday in the 3100 block of E. 5th.  

Last night around 10:00 PM, Detectives from the SPD Major Crimes Unit (MCU) along with personnel from the Safe Streets task for force and one of the SPD Police Anti-Crime teams located and arrested a suspect from the homicide. 

Elijah James Davis, (20) was booked into jail for First Degree Murder and Drive by Shooting.

Original Release 10/1/2020:

A drive by shooting in East Central claims the life of a juvenile male.

On October 1, 2020, a drive by shooting was reported around 2:45 p.m. in the area of 3100 E. 5th Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and found a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later passed away from his injury.

SWAT officers at training, who were close to the scene, responded to help secure the location and provide scene security.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit (MCU), an officer from the Safe Street Task Force and the Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU) are working to identify a suspect vehicle. MCU Detectives are processing the residence for evidence. The Spokane County Forensics Unit is assisting with evidence collection.

This is an active investigation with no other details to release at this time.
