Back to back incidents including a shooting that shut down a local school keep SPD officers running

Monday, May 24, just before 9am, Spokane Police responded to a report of a shooting at Cataldo and Madelia. Witnesses say a vehicle pulled up to a residence and an occupant threw something at a male who then ran at the vehicle firing one round. The male continued running after the vehicle, which fled the area.

A K9 responded to check the area but the suspect was not located. Officers managed to make contact with the victim who was uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing. This appears to be an isolated domestic violence incident with no ongoing threat to the public. Stevens Elementary School was put on lockdown for a short time as a precaution.

About 15 minutes later, officers were called to another incident two blocks away at the 1900 block of East Desmet. Two male acquaintances reportedly got in a fight that resulted in one using a bat and one using a golf club as weapons. A third male broke up the fight. The suspect was quickly taken into custody on 2nd degree assault and the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Then about an hour after the assault call, officers attended to a collision at Cataldo and Napa. The impact of the collision forced the driver of one car onto the front porch of a nearby house. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

While all three incidents happened in the same area in a short timeframe, they are unrelated.
