Four juveniles charged in the assault of a transient sleeping at the North Shopko

Spokane Police Detectives completed their investigation into the violent August 27th assault of a transient woman asleep near the North Shopko building and have referred charges to the Spokane County Prosecutors office.

The assault, captured on video, showed a group of young people kicking and hitting the woman who was laying on the ground sleeping. SPD detectives identified the suspects within 24 hours and located the victim. Fortunately, she did not sustain permanent injuries.

Four young people ages 14 and 15, are charged with a total of 8 felonies connected to the 2nd Degree Assault of the victim. Detectives have referred the charges to prosecutors.

This incident generated a lot of public interest and outcry particularly as the video of the assault was circulated online.
