SPD Arrests Shooting Suspect

On January 19th, 2022 at 5:40pm Spokane Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of South Cedar. Upon arrival officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the face. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. The initial investigation determined the shooting suspect was walking his dog past a residence on Cedar when some residents went outside and words were exchanged. The suspect then shot the victim.  Police took him into custody a few blocks away.

The suspect is 65 year old Gary L. Cottrill who was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a 1st degree assault charge. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
