A missing 5 year old boy who prompted an emergency alert is found safe curled up in a stranger’s car near his home
This morning, March 17, 2022, just before 5:30am, Spokane Police received a call from a parent of Xavier Jones saying they’d awakened to find Xavier missing from the home. Due to the freezing cold weather, Xavier’s age, and the fact he was non-verbal, an extensive search began utilizing most of the available police personnel in the city.
Other units were also deployed including Spokane County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue personnel, Spokane Regional Air Support Unit, Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU), Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Police Volunteers, and personnel from the Spokane County Emergency Management. Several Wireless Emergency Alerts were utilized as new information came in and rush hour traffic picked up. Many citizens in the area who received the alerts left their homes on foot to help look for Xavier. TARU was able to pull video footage from nearby and determined the approximate time Xavier left (between midnight and 1:00am) and what clothing he was wearing.
Ultimately, just before 8:00am, Xavier was found in a nearby car by a citizen leaving for work. He was asleep when found, and very cold, but was ultimately cleared by medics as unharmed.
Spokane Police would like to thank everyone who assisted looking for Xavier and share in the relief that this incident had a good outcome.
