SPD investigating an incident where a man was on fire and is badly burned

On August 1, 2022, SPD responded to a call that a man was on fire and had been dropped off at a local hospital. Officers arrived at the hospital and discovered the man was still on fire when brought into the emergency room. His clothes were soaked in a flammable substance.

The victim was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with burns over approximately 30% of his body. Major Crimes is actively investigating this case to determine the nature of the fire and if there are suspects involved. The incident happened at a residence in a neighborhood north of Esmeralda Golf Course in Northeast Spokane. Detectives have spoken to a number of people familiar with the man and the incident and are also asking anyone with any information on this case to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
