Update 9/17/22:

SPD arrests female for murder

On 9-17-22, SPD patrol officers arrested 30-year-old Ashley Garrity for murder 2nd degree stemming from a stabbing incident on 09-13-22. SPD received information regarding Garrity’s whereabouts and patrol officers located her near N. Maple and W. Maxwell in West Central Spokane. Garrity briefly fled from officers on foot but was quickly caught and arrested without further incident.

Garrity was booked into Spokane County Jail for murder 2nd degree along with an outstanding felony Department of Corrections warrant for assault. Garrity has six felony convictions for offenses which include assault, harassment, and possession of stolen property.

SPD investigating fatal stabbing downtown

On 09-13-22 just before midnight, SPD received a call regarding a stabbing in an apartment building near 1st Ave and Division St. Patrol officers arrived and found an adult female suffering from a stab wound. Officers immediately began rendering aid. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded and is actively investigating. Preliminary information indicates this was not a random attack, however the details surrounding what led to the stabbing are still unknown.

SPD will provide more information as it becomes available and is appropriate for public dissemination. The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the victim at a later date.
