Update 12/2/22:
The suspect in yesterday’s fatal shooting has been taken into custody without incident around 10am this morning. Mitchell Chandler was located in the area of the shooting near Highway 195 and 16th Ave. There are no additional outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the community. SPD worked tirelessly through the night and into this morning to locate this dangerous suspect. SPD wishes to thank community members who called in tips related to this incident. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when appropriate.

SPD responds to fatal shooting near Inland Empire Way
On 12-1-22, around 2:30PM, SPD officers responded to a shooting in the 2300 block of W 16th Ave. Patrol officers located a deceased person inside a residence.
Information was quickly obtained that the suspect had fled. Numerous resources were summoned to the area, including patrol officers, investigative teams and specialty units. At the writing of this release, the suspect has not been located.
An active search for the suspect is underway, currently in the Peaceful Valley area. The suspect is to be considered armed and dangerous. SPD is releasing this picture of the suspect, it is approximately 3 years old. If you see or come in contact with this individual call 911 immediately.
